Steven Spielberg announced yesterday (April 11th) that The Kidnapping of Edgardo Mortara will be his next film, to be shot in early 2017 for release in late 2017. It will be based on Kertzer's book of the same name and will star Mark Rylance as Pope Pius IX. Tony Kushner is writing the screenplay.
