Heraldic sculptures are often seen as an exciting picture language using stunning images, vibrant design and visual colour, incorporating a glorious mêlée of signs and symbols which are frequently chosen not only to reflect the life but also the career of the person concerned. Although Heraldry is viewed by many today as an ancient art form, its images are as strong today as they were in the Middle Ages. All over the world their traditional striking designs of realistic and fanciful creatures are frequently borrowed and turned into successful Corporate trademarks and modern logos.
Within these pages are many examples of individual heraldic sculptures produced by Ian G Brennan, commissioned for both private clients and the Royal Household, many of which are being carved from the same ancient, but now fully seasoned lime tree, that once grew in Somerset, Southern England. |

These pages include the complete photographic record of every carved and painted Crown, Coronet and Crest which have been placed in St George's Chapel Windsor and Henry VII Chapel for the Knights of the Garter and Knights of the Bath since 1989. Also shown are a selection of how these ancient and historic heraldic two dimensional designs are reproduced, carved in three-dimensions using photographs taken during the various stages. |
